How to Convert CGPA to Percentage
If you're a student in India, Pakistan, or Bangladesh, you've probably needed to convert your CGPA to a percentage at some point. Whether it's for a job application, higher studies abroad, or just curiosity, this calculator makes it simple.
The most common formula used by universities on the 10-point scale is: Percentage = CGPA x 9.5. So if your CGPA is 8.5, your percentage would be 80.75%. This formula was recommended by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is widely accepted.
For the US 4.0 scale, the conversion is different. A 4.0 GPA equals 100%, and it scales linearly from there. The 5-point scale works the same way. This calculator handles all three scales automatically.
What is SGPA and How Does It Relate to CGPA?
SGPA stands for Semester Grade Point Average. It's your GPA for a single semester. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the weighted average of all your SGPAs across every semester.
To calculate CGPA from SGPA, you multiply each semester's SGPA by its credit hours, add them all up, and divide by the total number of credits. That's exactly what the "SGPA to CGPA" mode does for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the CGPA x 9.5 formula accurate for all universities?
The 9.5 multiplier is the most widely used formula in India, recommended by AICTE. But some universities use different multipliers. For example, some use CGPA x 10 or even custom conversion tables. Check with your specific university if you need an exact conversion for official purposes.
How do I convert a 10-point CGPA to a 4-point GPA?
There's no universal formula for this. A common approach is to first convert your CGPA to a percentage (CGPA x 9.5), then convert that percentage to the 4.0 scale. For example, a CGPA of 8.0 = 76% which roughly equals a 3.0 on the US 4.0 scale. Use both modes in this calculator to do both steps.
What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is your GPA for one semester. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the average of all your SGPAs, weighted by the number of credits in each semester. Think of SGPA as one semester's score and CGPA as your overall score.
